The Lakes of Muirfield was conceptualized by Gary King in 2002 when the ideal parcel of land was identified for the project. This location on Country Hills Blvd. is half way between the Calgary International Airport and Strathmore, Alberta. The 350 acre site is adjacent to the hamlet of Lyalta, which has a beautiful ‘B’ canal meandering throughout the property. This canal is a subsidiary of the Bow River which feeds the City of Calgary.

Gary’s vision was realized with the unanimous support of Wheatland County Council members and that of the community residents. In the summer of 2006 construction began by moving 3 million cubic meters of earth, with perfect earth balance, to prepare the entire site. This was the third largest earth moving project in Alberta, besides the oil sands in Fort McMurray and Alberta Transportation - Highways Department.

The Lakes of Muirfield is home to a pristine 18 hole golf course with outstanding water features that make the course challenging and exciting to play. In addition, these same water features enhance the housing component where over 150 homes with picturesque views have been built with another 100 lots fully serviced. Strict Architectural controls will guide the build-out of the approved 700 housing units. Approvals are in place for 282 Assisted Living units and 5.5 acres of Highway Commercial. A strong Home Owners Association was also created from the onset for this gated community.
